NORAIR Engineering Corp. was founded in 1935 by Henry Norair. The firm, centrally located in Washington, DC ; capitalized on a growing market for heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and other mechanical construction work.

In the 1950's, Henry's son Richard expanded the business into general contracting. NORAIR performed several high-profile Washington D.C. projects as the prime contractor; and Richard Norair represented the firm while serving as President of the Associated General Contractors of DC in 1970.
